Why AHL Water
• Holistic Approach
When a water treatment plant fails, the solution is usually associated infrastructure upgrades and installation of the latest technologies. However, in many cases the root cause of the failure is lack of asset maintenance and/or lack of operational skills. A more holistic approach is required to identify the root cause of the failure.
AHL Water adopts the Capable Plant Model of the American Water Works association which states that a ‘Capable Plant” will only perform as required if all aspects of plant design, operation and management are supportive of the desired outcome. We therefore offer a holistic water services solutions focusing on design, operations, maintenance and management of water and wastewater supply systems to ensure sustainable operations.
• Solutions based on Risk Management Principles
Risk management is a universal business concept based on the identification, evaluation, and prioritization of risks followed by coordinated and economical application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control the impact of the risk. The risk management process is a systematic method which allows for constant checks to validate efficacy of implemented actions and can be applied in many spheres of business to manage risks.
The World Health Organisation has adopted the risk management approach to water and wastewater management through the Water Safety Planning Concept which states that “the most effective means of consistently ensuring the safety of a drinking-water supply is through the use of a comprehensive risk assessment and risk management approach that encompasses all steps in water supply from catchment to consumer”.
This risk management approach is aligned with the legislative requirements outlined in the Blue, Green, and No Drop Certification pro-gram of the Department of Water and Sanitation and forms part of the National Drinking Water Quality standard SANS 241.
All our activities are based on risk management procedures to identify, evaluate, and mitigate all risks associated with the full value chain of water and wastewater leading to continuous risk reduction and legislative compliance.
